SERA (Self-Evolving Robotic Agent) turns a high-level vision-language model into a robotic agent using an editable harness that maintains task context from observations and execution feedback. A fixed vision-language-action model handles low-level control. Self-evolution uses environment rollouts to propose and evaluate harness revisions, and the chosen configuration is frozen before held-out testing. On RoboMME, SERA reports 51.38% overall success with autonomous selection, versus 44.38% without self-evolution.
Why it matters
Long-horizon robot tasks depend on history that single-step policies can miss. Editable, feedback-driven planning harnesses offer one route to retaining task progress across execution errors.
Read with care
Results come from a single benchmark (RoboMME) with a reported gap of about seven points; source claims not independently checked.
