NEWS ABSTRACT10/22/2026 · one shared analysis

CulturalRiddles is a benchmark for testing cultural awareness and cultural reasoning in large language models, using riddles drawn from 62 cultures across 45 countries and 51 languages. The paper describes a participatory data creation process, human evaluation, and tuning of an automatic evaluation metric. It reports analysis of scores from 28 LLMs on the benchmark.

Why it matters

Most LLM benchmarks are English-centric, so a multilingual, culturally diverse test set can reveal gaps in how models handle non-Western cultural knowledge and reasoning.
