Pulse Local is a Mac budgeting app that says its AI models and user ledger run entirely on the user's machine. Network traffic is limited to a one-time model download, optional update checks, and bank sync via Plaid, which the company says is processed but not stored. The company reports BudgetBench results: about 7 in 100 chat answers showed a wrong figure with checks on, versus about 23 in 100 without. The app is in beta for Apple Silicon Macs, with Windows planned.
Why it matters
It illustrates a privacy-first design where personal financial data and AI queries never leave the device, a tradeoff against the accuracy and capability of larger cloud models.
Read with care
Source claims not independently checked; the accuracy figures come from the company's own benchmark, and the source is a promotional launch page.
